Painted this 11″ x 14″ oil on panel, yesterday, at Helen Putnam Regional Park, near Petaluma. This was a “go for it” painting – I just dove into the colors and shapes, keeping in mind composition.

I did this painting last week at Helen Putnam Regional Park. I launched into it without any preparatory sketches – just responding to the colors, values and shapes in front of me.

As a warm-up for larger figure paintings, I did a series of small shape compositions using acrylic, molding paste and sand – applied with a palette knife.
